The Royal Wedding

I am sure you have watched the Royal Wedding. There are some moments you might have missed, though. Watch the following clip:

Your turn:
1. Compare William and Kate's wedding to Charles and Diana's / a Romanian wedding in terms of customs, etiquette, garments. of course except for the fact that this was a royal wedding. What did you find special/interesting about it? What do you think is specific for a Romanian wedding? Have you ever been at a wedding in another country or for another nationality? How was it different?

  1. The wedding of William and Kate was very beautiful and we can't forget it was a royal wedding so we can compare it with a Romanian wedding because in Romania weddings are very different because the culture is also different.Romanian poeple use to do big parties with romanian popular music or gipsy music. Also we have traditions like at some part of the wedding they used to steal the bride.

  2. The wedding of William and Catherine demonstrated to the world the splendidness of marriage and civilization when things are done properly, with honor, dignity, and in order, for the right reasons in the pursuit of what is good, true, and beautiful. Indeed, I think, the whole world should take a lesson from the British in this, compared with a Romanian wedding is different because the tradition and culture.

  3. But what is DIFFERENT? Think about one aspect - THIS is what I'd like you to do.

  4. Hello Theacher!
I can say the difference betwen a Royal Wedding, and one of our contry is that, is very different. To a Royal Wedding for example does not steal the bride, groom, shoe.
In general the British,at events, like this ,very important, ladies wearing hats of different models, some very exentrice.

  5. I looked with great pleasure the royal wedding of William and Kate. It was a wonderful event, unique in the world. In our country is different, there are other traditions, such as "stealing" the bride, is "stealing" the bride's shoe, the bride throws the bouquet to unmarried girls. I like the Romanian tradition. I wish them many children and stone house!

  6. First, the royal wedding is very very beautiful. But I realy love the Roumanian wedding because in Romania we steal the bride and nobody shootS at you. It's a tradition. I think in England if you steal the bride they call emergency(112)

  7. Teacher i don`t understand why this couple is so special because they are people too and we are the same ... just for the fame that they have?

  8. A Royal Wedding is different from a Romanian one in every possible aspect. The way they look, the way they talk, the way they organize it,the civilized way they look at the event, the way they party, the service to church and besides all this is the marketing aspect.Retail aspect, the tourism, the press, the souvenirs and many more is business around a Royal wedding. But Monarchy itself brings the difference to such a wedding, their traditions are great. They respect it.

  9. Florin,
they are special for the country whose language we are trying to learn.
And they were really nice and young and promising as any other young couple.

But my idea, Floring, was to compare a British and a Romanian wedding, so you can write about a Romanian wedding!

  10. William's wedding with Kate was very beautiful. In comparative with a Romanian wedding I could say it was pretty simple since a Romanian wedding has many traditions: the groom goes with the fiddlers to the godparents house then together they are going to take the bride. There godmother arranges the bride wedding-veil, then the bride put flowers in the chest of all who attend. When leaving to the church, the godmother go with the bridegroom and the godfather with the bride. At the party besides the wedded pair first dance we finde a dance called chicken dance (they cooked a chicken and person is dancing with her all over the room till the song ends after that she takes the chicken to the godfather and he have to buy it).

  11. I think that the Royal Wedding was gorgeous. I liked the most the hat parade and the fact that they keep the tradition alive. I find it interesting that the Imperial Groom doesen`t wear the wedding ring.
In Romania the traditions are different because the culture is also different. At a Romanian wedding, when somebody stole the bride, they ask for a bounty to give her back to the groom.
When I get married, I would like my wedding to be in a british style because is more special.

  12. One interesting thing that I observed was, that Kate Middleton's bridal bouquet was laid at the Grave of Unknown Warrior instead of being thrown between the unmarried ladies to designate who will be the next bride. In our country bridal bouquets are made of roses, lilies, freesias or orchids. Kate Middlestone's bouquet contained lily of the valley combined with hyacinth pips and a sprig of myrtle.

  13. A British wedding is very different from a Romanian wedding, because those are two different countries and the traditions are not the same. Also, the religion of the couple is very important, because every religion has it's own customs. In Romania, we are familiar with stealing the bride, and giving gifts to the new couple, but those two things are not present in this royal wedding.

  14. The weddings are different ofcourse because each country has it's own traditions; Romania (stealing the bride , stealing the shoe , and more some undecent) , English ones (wear something new , something old , and something blue if i recall corectly) and more. There are also different ways to organize them.

  15. The wedding of William and Kate was a special event, and a difference beetwen a Royal Wedding and a wedding of our country is, for example, that the groom goes to take the bride, and after that they go to church togheter.
And what seems interesing for me in this Royal Wedding, is that the bride is not of"blue blood".

  16. The wedding of William and Kate was very beautiful indeed. There are so manny diferences between a Brithis wedding and a Romanian one. Here in Romania we are familiar with stealing the bride like Adriana said, stealing the shoe,in some cases stealing the groom, everything for a bounty and also here in Romania i want to emphasize that the bride throws the bouquet to unmarried girls, but in Brithis they don't use to do that.

  17. Prince William Wedding is a fantasy lived by the entire planet, compared with a wedding from Romania it was very different because in Romania the culture is very different because is otherwise organized.

  18. It is hard to compare The Royal Wedding to a traditional roumanian one mainly because they belong to different religions:the wedding ceremony for british royals holding this position is Anglican,a branch of protestant, while a traditional roumanian wedding is usually orthodoxe. Therefore there are plenty of differences.First,at the royal wedding, the groom has to wait for the bride in front of the sanctuary, while at the roumainian one, both the bride and groom get to the curch togheter. Moreover ,the roumanian lovers have to exchange wedding rings which are symbolising their commitment to eachother, while William refused to wear any ring.In terms of garments, the bride has to wear a white long dress and the groom a farmal suit, which wasn't the case of Willian because he decided to wear the strikingly distinctive uniform of Colonel of the Irish Guards. Also,a specific detail was that every woman at the royal wedding had to wear an elegant hat. After wedding ceremony ended, the royal couple delighted the public with two short kisses on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, and after that they marched off accompanied by the british guards. The whole royal wedding could be defined by words like grandeur, elegance, etiquette, and I consider that no romanian wedding could ever match it in any of these terms.

  19. From what I saw on TV and read on the internet I found that the wedding of William and Kate though more popular and larger than that of Charles and Diana was quite simple and of good taste. Princess Diana had a really fancy dress trying to be some sort of fairytale princess and arrived in carriage, while Kate had a gorgeous, simple dress and arrived in a car. This can most certainly not be compared to a Romanian wedding but neither to an English one. The royal wedding is out of the context of ordinary weddings. One thing I can tell you for sure is "manele" weren't played at this wedding reception. I've never been to a wedding of someone from another culture but I know Indians and Japanese have really interesting wedding customs.

  20. Hmmmm I doubt that you can compare a royal wedding because the word "royal" says it all. The main differences tho are the fact that people wear clothes which cost probably more than a whole romanian wedding but also the fact that they have different customs. I personally didn't watch the wedding because I'm not that interested in this kind of events. My personal opinion is that a huge fuss was made over this wedding. I understand it was a royal wedding but I think that people here are more interested in our country's financial situation or other things connected to Romania than some prince's wedding.

  21. We cannot make a comparison between the two weddings, because the royal wedding it's not a typical british wedding ,and the romanian weddings have many different habits.

    ReplyDelete
  22. First of all the Royal Wedding was different from the Roumanian weddings because it was an catholic ceremony and most of the roumania wedding are orthodox. This is an essential detail that rise big differences starting with the religious ritual, for eg. at the Royal wedding the bride’s father took Kate to William, and at roumanian orthodox ritual the bride and groom bought go together at the altar. Moreover the Royal wedding was a formal event that followed a certain strict protocol, and was worldwide watched by milions of viewers.

  23. First of all, there are lots of different aspect between a British wedding and a Romanian one. I strongly believe that you almost can not compare Britain with Romania. It is so different, from the way of living to people.
Generally,Romanian weddings are not so elegant as British weddings, especially The Royal British Wedding. In Romania, there is the tradition of stealing the bride, the tradition to go to the bride`s house and ask for the permition of her parents and so on. Even the music is extremely different, in Romania ,the music which is played on most of the weddings is gipsy music(manelas),that in Britain does not exist. It seems to me that the clear and one thing in common in these two kinds of weddings is The final Kiss. Doesn`t matter if you`re a queen or not, when you bond ties with your lover, at your wedding you have to kiss him.

  24. I've been to a few weddings in Romania and I was very careful when someone related how a wedding issues in another country. So I remember something that really pleased me and I would like to talk about… the gifts. Everyone knows that in Romania especially in Transylvania, at some moment every guest will offer an envelope with a considerable amount of money to the bride and bridegroom. I'm not agreeing this custom. Why? Well, let's see..
In Switzerland for example, when you are invited to a wedding, you ask the bride what shop has chosen. You go to that shop and put an amount of money (a symbolic sum) to their “account”. After the wedding the bride and the bridegroom go to that shop and they buy things for their house in quantum of the sum existing in their account.
In the Bermudas, every guest goes to the wedding to have a good time, congratulate the bride and the bridegroom. When someone wants to go home, gives them a symbolic gift and pays what they consumes.
Why should we remain with moral debts when we could go to weddings just for fun...?

  25. I have never been at a wedding in a foreign country though i have been working for a summer in ireland as a whaiter, and people used to book days that where in the middle of the week like thuseday, friday, and not just saturday and sunday like in Romania. Also the weddings where had a small number of invited persons.
So comparing a Romanian wedding to the one that just took place in England, i can say that we try to show of, and we use the expression "you only get married once", but that doesn't mean that you have to get everyone drunk and invite Liviu Guta to your reception.
My personal opinion is that you can still have fun in a decent way.

  26. I think that the cultural background is very important when comparing a British wedding with a Romanian one. We have to consider first each country's opinions about wedding. Nowadays the trend is for Romanians to copy the wedding ceremonies from abroad. Still, there are enough people who choose to follow the Romanian traditions: the farewell of the bride and groom when they leave their houses, stealing the bride, the groom or the shoe, the Chickens Dance, etc.

  27. The wedding of William and Kate was very beautiful. The big difference between a Romanian weddings it was the royal style. Other people with other education.
Kate was beautiful, with simple make-up, her dress it was very special and elegant.
It was not necessary to bring a gift. For example, the Transylvanian aristocratic family traditional brandy and wine brought to the royal family

  28. Honestly, I haven't seen the Romanian royal wedding, but I am sure we can't compare those two weddings. In he first place the British royal family is the most wealthy of all families in the whole world. The British royal wedding was, if you'd like, the main event of the year. The wedding was televised all around the world and had milions of viewers.

  29. I have never been at a wedding in a foreign country but in july at my wedding i will "borrow" some american/british customs from the religious ceremony because i like them more....and why not...we are free people...and we can choose what we want.
In Romania i was in different parts of Transylvania...but all of them were differents....i mean...all of them had different customs.

  30. The royal wedding of William and Kate is different from a Romanian one, first of all, because we are mostly orthodox, the religious ceremony is quite different from the anglican one.
At a Romanian wedding, there are two main moments: the first is when the bride get's 'stolen' by a group of guests and the second important moment is when the bride's hair will be partially covered with a specific romanian scarf.

  31. First of all I think that we can’t make a comparasion between british weddings and romanian weddings.Unfortunatelly we have to learn alot from the others but firstly we should change our mentality. We are used all the time to show at the others that we are the best,we are the richest men in town…etc etc and we didn’t realise that a simple, elegant wedding is beautiful

  32. Royal Wedding of Prince William with Kate was unforgettable.I'm sure that everyone dreams of such a wedding.I liked it because it was elegant, simple and not extravagant.Unlike weddings in Romania, the royal wedding was like a dream and everyone wants it.In general, weddings are a perfect opportunity for people to be able to display their wealth and their outfits.I noticed that ladies dresses were simple but with very good taste.

  33. Well I'm not quite a fan of weddings so this event was not that important to me. I know tho that the whole world made a huge fuss about it and it was mediatised all over the world. I really doubt that more than 10-20% of the population was interesting in this wedding but of course, he's a prince so I guess this is something normal. I have been to several weddings and I think that a simple wedding is better than that because there isn't so much stress. The royal wedding was carefully followed by the media and every mistake they made was taxed. This is not a good thing to do but I guess that's just how things go when it comes to famous people.

  34. Compared to the royal wedding, a Romanian wedding has other customs like stealing the bride, which involves that during the reception, the bride is taken away by a male guest, who trades her for some sort of reward. At British weddings the bride usually throws her bouquet and it is said that the girl that catches it will be the next bride.

  35. Hello
The two wedding's ,William and Kate, Charles and Diana were both exquisite . I noticed Diana's Dress was much more bigger than Kate's. The train on her dress was amazing . She looked like a Royal fairy princess.Kate's dress compared to Diana's dress was simple but she looked beautiful to.We can not compare a Royal wedding to a Romanian wedding. A Royal wedding has military service, the whole country is watching. It's a big deal. I thing every girl would dream of a wedding like that .To be a princess . Every detail has to be perfect. In a way I think that for every girl that day is a special day,and we plan it to be perfect. There are many different things between a Royal wedding and a Romanian wedding but everything come's down to one thing, witch is the same :)

  36. I wasn't at weeddings. Is not like I hate them or something like that.I just did not have an occasion.
About the royal wedding,; I saw something on the news.Well ,I can tell that at the chapter of large number of unknown guests, the two weddings are similar.
William and Kate's wedding was realy cool, I mean beautifull. The event was a royal fashion, good taste, elegance and luxury. Everyone was watching the two grooms and everyone said in unison that this is how is made. Two inlove grooms, delighted parents, a queen who realy smiled, and invitations that were sensitized of the moment. This is the royal wedding.
Unfortunately, we don't have something like that, and this wedding is an example.
And there are many differences, but I don't know them.
