Building a tourist facility on top of a mountain

Have you ever climbed a mountain and felt like having a nice cup of tea or coffee?
BBC news tells about such an enterprise on top of Snowdon. Watch the clip and then express your own opinion on such a touristic facility. What facilities can you find on highest Romanian mountains?

  1. The last november I have been in Brasov with my boyfriend ,who came for first time to Rumania. We rented a very nice flat just beside the Black Church in the old town.We visited the most touristic places and the last day , we took the funicular up the top of Tampa , where we enjoyed the views of the town, the sunrishing, and the fresh air. Also we had lunch in the restaurant that you can find just where the funicular stops. We enjoy it a lot. It is a nice experience ,and also very romantic. Seeing the city like a mock-up city makes you feel like you are in the top of the world.

  2. Two years ago I was in Calimani mountains. There is a very beautiful landscape and I am very unpleased when I saw that there nothing develops. On the top of the mountain is a meteorological chalet and other for the tourist. From there you can see the sulfur mine and ”Left town”. There was a town for the mine’s workers and next to it is the house of Nicolae Ceausescu. I was in but everything is stolen, however I was surprised what a beautiful architecture the walls had. A year before to go there I so a reportage at TV about the “Left town” and present how there remains all mine’s documents. This is true. I found in some rooms documents and workers’ photography. It fascinated me! If you want to see some picture from there you can copy this link, sorry for the language but this is the best clip that I found!

    1. It's a very sad image! I had an almost similar feeling when visiting Borsec a few years ago! I don't know if things have improved ever since! Such a pity!

    2. That´s true Alina, I was there too, and it´s very sad because it is a beautiful place and a beautiful reserve. The thing that I liked the most is the tourist packages that they offer you, they offer you a guided tour and also a horseback tour. I think this is a point that can attract more people in Calimani.

    4. Bianca, I am sorry, I do not agree with you. I go to Calimani Mountains at least 2 times per year. And trust me, every time when I wanted to visit forsaken city wasn`t possible. The man that guarding the mines said it's forbidden to enter and he threatened to call the police if we go there. I never heard about the tourist pakages...

  3. It's a very good idea to build a coffee shop/restaurant or a tourist shop on top of a mountain, if the costs are not exagerated. It would bring tourists to the near by cities and they can spend some money in the city and also on the peak. I have been to Brasov and also to Piatra Neamt, mount Cozlia, and it was great.. beautiful view and fresh air! At Piatra Neamt there where some construction going on back in 2011, so maybe they are building something similar.

  4. Maybe not everywhere in Romania we have the greate conditions that we want, but in large part, the tourists found special places where can feel good.
For example, at us, in Cheile Bicazului, any tourist have the posibility to eat in a great restaurant, to buy Kurtos Kalacs ( which is specific to the area) and even buy souvenirs for him or friends. So, if you vizit the Bicaz, you will see a extraordinary landscape and can feel good.

    1. Dear Ionela,
I received the same comment before but did not publish it. You should know that if the comment is not published in about 2-3 days (although I usually check the comments daily) it means you have to correct something.

Here, for example "opposite" does not make sense here.
Can you rephrase and re-publish this?

    2. I want to say that we have many beautiful places in our country, which we should promote more and attract more foreign tourists. It is a very good idea to build a restaurant or a coffee shop on top of a mountain, where people rest a little bit and admire the landscape from height. With such innovative ideas we should promote ours mountain resorts and the sea resorts.

  6. In the last summer I climbed "Scaunu Domnului" peak (1381 m) and "Zespezel" peak (1278 m), it was a wonderful climb and movement in the woods but at the end I would love to have a little pub with cold water or beer, that would be very productive for the comunity in the area and from this video we should learn that we can make a lot of money with tourism because we have a beautiful country.

    1. Interesting, I had the same feeling some 20 years ago when climbing the same peaks as you! So nothing has changed. Why?

    2. I don't know why, but I think because no one want to invest in this very good tourism ideas, and we should improve a lot our tourism because we have great potential

    3. No one wants (-s)- it should be singular.

  7. A great idea, indeed!
My first clear memory of a mountain climb was in Parang, with my parents, at the age of 7. I believe nowadays the Parang resort is a total wreck (like so many others), unfortunately, but I remember we had a tea there, somewhere...
Last time we had a nice drink at Balea lake.
The huge lack of garbage cans is horrible in places like this and there are too many uncivilized persons. :(

  8. First thing that I would like to say is that in Romania we have lots of beautiful places and also mountains.Last time (when I had time) I was in Gurghiu mountains in winter time. There you can feel like in a fairy tale.Everything is untouched. You can play snowboard, ski and many others. But is a pitty that you can not drink, in cold days, not even a cup of tea.You can not find there a coffe shop or restaurant.I would like to build there one of them.

    1. Some missing letters in your words:
      e.g. coffee (twice).
      How about: breath?
