  1. This is a very funny picture. It remembers me when I was a child and I learnt the punctuation. You can write lots of crazy things if you aren’t careful. So, don’t make your text to be funny, let the idea to be!

  2. You can ignore punctuation if you want, but you will have to face the consequences :). Every phrase you say or write can be interpreted in many different ways, so be sure it's the right one. :)

  3. Hahaha this picture is very funny,I'm laughing out loud.It is very true the fact that when you ignore the punctuation some things can't be understood correctly by the others. In conclusion we must be very atentive when it comes the punctuation.

  4. Punctuation is very important because otherwise we would not understand anything from a sentece or we can understand only stupid things like in this example:”let`s eat grandma”. Correctly it is : „let`s eat, grandma”.

  5. Very funny your example. Really, the punctuation play a very important role. When we do not use correctly the punctuation, or not at all, most of times is interpreted quite another idea who can be at our disadvantage. And when expect to be appreciated, we'll have a big surprise. So, we must remember what we learned in primary school and to use our knowleadge.

    1. Hopefully we're not regressing, then! I also had an older post in which it was said that spelling is not so important, because even if we write with spelling errors, we can understand the message! So we can choose!

  7. I think punctuation is very important, because without punctuation everyone can understand what they want to understand, or what they need.
For example: Woman without her man is nothing.
This can be understand in different ways: ¨Woman, without her man, is nothing.¨or
¨Woman! Without her, man is nothing!¨

  11. When people speak face to face, they use changes in their voices, pauses and even hand motions to help people understand what they mean. Also, when people speak face to face, they are usually in a "situation", where many things can be assumed about what they mean. But if we don't use punctuation in writing, it can't be understood or it can be interpreted in a different way.

  13. When people speak face to face, they use changes in their voices, pauses, facial expressions and even hand motions to help others understand what they mean and usually, being in the situation many things can be assumed about what they mean. There is no aspect of language that is “not needed”. You probably think some people sat down somewhere and made up punctuation , but that's not the case at all, people started writing first and only started using punctuation when they couldn't understand what they were writing to each other.

  14. Dear Julia,
thank you for leaving a comment. It is very important for students of EFL to see the difference of working in a classroom,in an artificial environment, and working in the public space where everyone can see and comment on.

Do you use blogs and wikis in teaching/learning?

  15. Punctuation is very important, not just for English languages, but for all languages in the world.
Sadly, more and more people make grammar mistakes or punctuation mistakes. Using a wrong punctuation in a context can totally change the meaning of it.
So, without punctuation it would be very difficult to read a text. Maybe the punishment for breaking the grammar rules will work for some persons, and it can be a solution to improve the grammar of a language.

  17. Nowadays each person should learn to write and speak right. Is a horrible thing to see how many people also students who write like they have never seen a Romanian book. Here we have lots of people who doesn't know to write and read. The government should oblige everyone to make at least 10 classes to know the essential in grammar.

  18. Punctuation is so important because it gives the actual meaning to the written words. A single fault in punctuation can comunicate a totally different meaning to the one that is planned.
